MS Outlook Competition Goes on - Spicebird 0.4 coming soon on 2008
Application using Mozilla application framework are on the hook.
Next to Songbird's annoucement of a new version of their Mozilla based music application, there is to have a look on Spicebird, an open-source platform for collaboration, so Synovel.
Not very different, but not equal :) to Thunderbird, Spicebird will use the Lightning Addon, which also will be implemented in OpenOffice3.0 next year for their PIM...hmmm older story, read here.
The best thing i read is, that Spicebird Application lets you send instant messages using Jabber technique. sounds great.
my personal must have" features of an more than a desktop email-client for 2008, also when i prefer more my online apps, are:
e-mail(s-imap, imap, pop, smtp), message tagging, instant messaging (gtalk, aim, icq, jabber), pdf import and export, cms, wiki, blog, rss subscribe integration, group calendaring (sharing local and server-based calendars), and supporting multiple connectors: wcap(Java), iCal(Apple), webDAV(MS), calDAV(IETF), and google calendar, of course.
major competitors:
outlook 2007, ibm lotus symphony (not open source and $$$)
mozilla thunderbird, openoffice3.0 PIM, ... (open source and freeware)
